Movie review: 22 Jump Street

                                                            22 Jump Street Movie review
Officer Jenko and Schmidt are at it again. In this hilarious comedy about the two cops going back undercover, but this time as college students there are many shocking surprises. From ink squirting octopus to a surprise love interest, this movie pulls out all the stops. If you have since the first movie (21 Jump Street) you know that dorky Schmidt (played by Jonah Hill) becomes very popular in the high school they are undercover at. While handsome Jenko (played by Channing Tatum) hangs out in the chemistry lab with the nerds. In 22 Jump Street the roles are versed, much like they were when the two actually attended high school together in 2004. Jenko (Tatum) is the star football player and Schmidt (Hill) is an art nerd.

The movie starts out with the two hilarious cops dressed as Mexican drug dealers trying to stop an illegal drug operation from Mexico headed by a man named “Ghost”. Tatum has almost caught the bad guys caught when of course clumsy Hill messes it all up. The rest of the film focuses on these two going back undercover at local university. At the university Jenko (Tatum) quickly joins the most popular frat and becomes football star, leaving his “brother” Schmidt (Hill) all alone. The two share very many hysterical relationship sounding exchanges, such as “are you saying you want to investigate other people?”  They even attend a “relationship counselor” in order to sort out their “issues”. I found these to be extremely funny and entertaining.

One of my favorite part of the movie was probably when they are of course running form bad guys in a little helmet shaped car and Jenko (Tatum) decides it is a good idea to lose them through the robotics lab after their captain has told them not to waste anymore of the agency’s money. And who doesn’t love a great car chase scene with explosions and gun shots? I know I do. The appearance of characters Eric (played by Dave Franco) and Mr. Walters (played by Rob Riggle) in jail from Jenko and Schmidt’s first bust in 21 Jump Street was by far was the funniest and my most favorite part of this hilarious comedy.

While I did not believe 22 Jump Street to be better than the first, but it is still a great movie. It has action, hot cops, cute girls, football, octopuses and frat parties. What more could you want? It is a movie with many twists and turns and jokes that will certainly have you close to wetting your pants. If you haven’t seen it, head to wherever it is playing near you and make sure to get it on DVD or blu-ray November 18, 2014.
